Welcome to Cami and Wade's homepage. This has been a class project for Mr. Fehr's 3rd hour US History class. We hope that this page can give you an overview of what we have found and what you can find on the Internet. The sources of our information can be found on the "credits" portion of this page.

The NAACP (National Association of the Advancment of Colored People) is a prominant group of White and African American reformers who joined together in 1909 to fight battles for voting rights, segregation, and lynching. In 1915 the association scored its first win when the Supreme Court voted the grandfather clauses unconstitutional. These laws had been used in the South as as effort to deny African Americans their voting right.

Mary White Ovington, a white social worker who worked in black communities, helped organize a national conference on the "Negro Question." To be held on Lincoln's birthday, this interacial group founded the NAACP.

Look around a little bit and let us know what you think about the page. This has definatly helped our understanding of how the NAACP was started, and what it currently does.
